World-girdling teen Abby Sunderland has done an abrupt about face and is heading for home. She’s weathered powerful Southern Ocean storms and endured tedious calms, but moments after she rounded Cape Horn in her bid to become the youngest person to sail around the world alone, she received a message on her Facebook page she just couldn’t ignore. According to unsubstantiated reports it said, “Hey Abby, U wanna go 2 the prom w/me?” It was signed “U know who.”

She thought about it for a minute, then realized that yes, she did want to go to the prom with “U know who,” and more importantly, she knew that she’d have to break another record if she was going to sail back to her home town in California in time. It’s no coincidence that the theme for the Thousand Oaks, California, High School prom this year is “Enchantment Under the Sea”.

Abby is now attempting to round the Horn again, but her westerly course has her bashing into the stiff headwinds that circle Antarctica. But she’s undaunted. Her latest blog post (www.abbysunderland.com) states: “It’s a pain to turn back after all the hard work it’s taken me to make it this far but, you only get one chance 2 go to the Prom with U know who. He’s already got a tux and he’s renting a Hummer limousine. It’s gonna be awesome.”
