The 116-foot sloop Whisper has donated 1 percent of its summer 2015 charter income to Project Puffin, an organization that protects the rare seabirds. Started by the National Audubon Society in 1973, the project is designed to restore the puffin population and educate people on environmental issues that are threatening the seabird.
The Moorings has joined forces with Pack for a Purpose, a global initiative that helps travelers assist needy local populations in the destinations they explore. By packing their luggage with supplies suggested by the initiative, vacationing sailors can help local schools, medical clinics and community projects. The first site to benefit from the effort is the British Virgin Islands, home to The Moorings’ flagship base. Items will go to the organization’s Family Support Network.
