Maui Jim sunglasses
The cruising life, especially if you’re spending time in the tropics, places a lot of demands on your eyes—bright sunshine, glare and wind coupled with the strain of trying to see through the water to pick out coral heads or other obstacles—so a good pair of polarized sunglasses are not a luxury, but an absolute necessity.
I’ve recently had the opportunity to try out a pair of shades from Maui Jim‘s On The Water collection, and so far, my eyes are thanking me. The glasses in this collection are made to protect the eyes of serious water sports enthusiasts. The lenses are larger and are designed to curve around the eyes to block more UV rays, and are available in both glass and polycarbonate (most styles are also available with prescription lenses). I noticed that I’m not squinting anymore—which is awesome—and that my shades (the “Blue Water” frames with HCL Bronze glass lenses) do a good job of blocking the wind too when we’re sailing, which helps with eye fatigue.
The frames are designed with wider temples to reduce side-glare and a snug fit to minimize the gap between your face and the glasses.
