Summer Sailstice 2012
If so you should register your sail as part of the 12th annual Summer Sailstice, a global celebration of sailing. If you’re not sailing, you should be!
Why? It’s the weekend closest to the solstice, the first weekend of summer, school’s out, the summer sailing season is ahead, and it’s the perfect time for all sailors to be out on the water wherever they sail. By registering as a participating sailor with Summer Sailstice sailors are connecting to grow a global sailing holiday celebration plus all become eligible to win prizes from subscriptions to Cruising World magazine to a one-week BVI charter with the Footloose Sailing Charters, a Hobie Kayak, GoPro HD Hero 2 video cameras and over 400 other sailing prizes. Begun in 2001, Summer Sailstice was created as a holiday uniting sailors in a global sailing festival on the weekend closest to the summer solstice.
It’s simple! To participate sailors need to simply sign up at www.summersailstice.com and then go sailing on the weekend of June 23 – 24, 2012. The website allows you to post your sailing plans, create and promote a sailing event, invite others, or see what other sailors are doing in your area. You can host a club open house, arrange a cruising rendezvous, hold a race or simply sail off on a solo sail like Dan & Diane Gallant who will be cruising the their Island Packet 31, Aweigh of Life, in the Bras d’Or lakes in Nova Scotia. Just go enjoy a sail.
When signing up sailors are also encouraged to ‘check the box’ to pledge funds to Sailors for the Sea for every mile sailed on Summer Sailstice. You’ll enjoy a sail and can help save the seas at the same time.
