Barefoot Offshore Sailing School, the instructional division of Barefoot Yacht Charters on the Caribbean Windward island of St. Vincent, offers liveaboard courses for a range of certificates based on the American Sailing Association curriculum. Hands-on classes range from basic keelboat to multihull and include women-only sessions.
A nine-night itinerary for advanced coastal cruising (ASA course 106) is offered winter and summer. The winter itinerary (February to May) departs St. Lucia and runs north to Martinique, Dominica, Guadeloupe, Montserrat or Antigua, St. Kitts, St. Barts and St. Maarten. The summer route (June through August) departs St. Lucia and heads south to Grenada. Training platforms include Beneteau monohulls and Lagoon and Fountaine Pajot multihulls, with opportunities to experience different boats and instructors midcourse. Daily periods for relaxing, snorkeling, exploring and dining out are also part of the schedule.
