Robertson and Caine, the South African yard whose Leopard-brand catamarans are known to countless sailors through The Moorings and more, is the subject of a new book.

Leopard’s Leap, The Tale of Robertson and Caine commemorates the 33 years that Robertson and Caine has been in business. The 271-page book by Rob Kamhoot was published in October and first shared at the Annapolis Sailboat Show.

It details not only the yard’s history, but also the many partnerships that helped to expand the business throughout the years.

“Robertson and Caine was built off relationships, whether it be our founders’ incredible friendship and trust, or the valued partnerships that helped to grow the Robertson and Caine brand. Our employees see these values and stories as they trickle down into our own work culture,” Peter Robertson, president of Robertson and Caine, Inc., stated in a press release. “With the passing of our founder Jerry Caine almost 25 years ago, we have proudly developed a team of employees, buyers and sellers that have truly become a part of the Robertson and Caine family, and we will maintain those values into the next 33 years of business.”

The book has sections that cover the early days of Robertson and Caine, production, facility growth, sales, innovation and more. The company was founded by John Robertson and Jerry Caine, and today has its manufacturing facility in Cape Town with a sales, customer service, design and procurement team in Tampa, Florida.

“The legacy of Robertson and Caine is both historic and immense, and it was crucial that we capture it in writing,” Theo Loock, managing director of Robertson and Caine, stated in the release. “This book does just that. Not only does it tell a story of detailed craftsmanship in every boat we build, but it also expresses the values and standards that make Robertson and Caine so special.”

Copies are in-person only (at least for now): Leopard’s Leap, The Tale of Robertson and Caine can be found at a limited number of bookstores.
