Pietarsaari, Finland is a center of high-quality yacht builders–Swan and Baltic spring to mind immediately–there must be something about the days of darkness in winter and nearly endless sun in summer that breeds them. FinnFlyer is lesser known than its rivals but has been producing boats for more than three decades. The company has just announced a new 36-footer, a racer-cruiser that appears to be built to very high standards.
The FinnFlyer 36 is designed by Strahlmann Yacht Design and its hull is built using vinylester resin that’s vacuum-infused in E-glass laminates. Kevlar and carbon fiber strengthen and reinforce high-load areas. The deck uses a divinycell core. The keel is a modern-shaped steel fin with a trailing lead bulb.
The FinnFlyer 36 will be offered in two styles; the Club is a flat-out racer, and the CR will include amenities for those who want to race during the week and go off with the family during the weekend. The company says the CR will have an aft cabin with a double berth. The head will be to starboard of the companionway, opposite the galley and nav station. The saloon will feature a U-shaped dinette and a settee; forward will be another double cabin.
Hull number 1 hit the water in June 2008.
