The brokerage team at Wellington Yacht Partners had listed the Hinckley 51 Airborne for sale with an asking price of $495,000.
Airborne is a 1998 model currently located in Somerset, Massachusetts. Aside from a world cruise in 2004, she has primarily been based between New England and the Bahamas.
After experiencing hull damage and partial flooding in the Bahamas during Hurricane Dorian in 2019, the yacht was brought up to the renowned Brooklin Boat Yard in Maine where the original owner paid $750,000 for repairs and upgrades. Notable upgrades include nearly all-new navigation systems and electronics, new transmission components, new sails and much more.
Airborne sleeps four in two private ensuite cabins, plus four in the main salon. The interior is crafted in satin-finished American cherry including solid trim, drawer fronts, cabin doors, louvered cabinet doors and hull ceilings. New upholstery and cushions were added and all interior varnish and cabin soles were refinished in 2020.
The owner’s cabin features a double V-berth and plenty of storage. A large deck hatch and cabin portlight provide light and ventilation. The owner’s private ensuite head features a white Corian countertop with all necessary restroom appliances and a shower stall.
The full-beam main salon has a U-shaped extendable settee on each side with additional pilot berths, plus a solid cherry dining table and a bar area. Appliances include everything one might need for meal prep underway: white Corian countertops with flush molded twin sinks, a 3-burner stainless steel propane stove with oven and broiler, a large top-opening Grunert refrigerator with freezer compartments, a microwave oven, knife rack and water filter.
“Airborne is a nice example of the popular Hinckley 51 series boasting a handsome profile, proven hull design and beautiful Maine craftsmanship inside and out,” the brokers at Wellington Yacht Partners stated on their website.
Measuring a total length of 51 feet, other key specs include a 40,000-pound displacement, a beam of 14 feet and a draft of 5 feet, 9 inches. A Yanmar 4JH2-DTE diesel engine provides the vessel with 88 hp.
The composite hull and deck are constructed from a hand-laid laminate of blister resistant Vinylester laminating resin reinforced with a knit hybrid fabric of Kevlar/E-glass for strength against repeated impact. The deck is white gelcoat with beige non-skid. New sails were installed in 2020, including a North 3Di Ocean 370 full batten furling mainsail, genoa and North Dacron storm jib.
