The Performance Cruisers in this years contest are not like the “cruiser/racers” youd limit to round-the-buoys regattas or light inshore cruising. These are tricked-out, comfortable boats which follow the logic that faster is safer–and definitely more fun. They are the Dehler 39, the Hunter HC 50, the X-482, the W-46, and the Morris 454. The prize goes to a boat that brings such offshore-racing innovations as water ballast and a gimballed nav station into a cruising context: the Hunter HC 50, built in Alachua, Florida.
