Contest Yachts in the Netherlands held the world premiere of its 63CS at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September.
The Contest 63CS is designed by judel/vrolijk & co with interiors by Wetzels Brown Partners. It has three ensuite staterooms with optional layouts for four or five staterooms—all with two VIPs that remain the same size no matter what else changes. Owners can be situated in the master stateroom, which spans the yacht’s full beam aft.
According to the builder, the Contest 63CS is intended to be owner-managed and owner-sailed, for cruisers who do not wish to bring aboard crew. For occasional extra help on board, there’s an optional convertible space forward that can be used by crew. Normally, it’s a sail locker and place for stores.
The sail-handling systems are organized for shorthanded days on the water, with stout construction that includes vacuum-infused composite structures and Lloyd’s Register certification.
Contest Yachts markets its sailboats as being easily managed with robust rigs and high-end hardware, lines, rigging and ground tackle. Powered systems with fingertip operation are set within reach of the helm pedestals and working areas. There are self-furling systems integrated into the bowsprit forward for the code zero and helix, and there are underdeck furlers for the jib or genoa and removable inner staysail. This yacht also has an optional self-tacking jib.
“On this new 63CS, everything really can be handled back in the working area, tidily aft of the walk-through leisure guest cockpit that leads forward down into the super spacious saloon and professional-standard galley,” the shipyard stated in a press release.
What else is the team at Wetzels Brown working on? They’re also helping to create the world’s largest-ever sloop, the 280-footer known as Project 410 that’s currently in build at Royal Huisman. That yacht will have a carbon mast, boom and integrated sailing system that are designed and produced by Royal Huisman’s sister company, Rondal.
