The Moorings 4600 catamaran is the charter version of the Morrelli & Melvin-designed Leopard 46. Both are built in South Africa. The Moorings 4600 is a low-maintenance version with a charter layout that consists of four cabins and a berth for crew in the forepeak of the port hull. The accommodations in each hull are identical: a cabin forward and aft, with plenty of room for dressing, and a large double berth. The cabins in each hull are separated by a pair of heads with separate showers and are accessed from each stateroom. All the cabins and heads have good light; opening ports and hatches provide good ventilation.
The saloon features a large dinette with seating for eight forward and a more-than-adequate galley that opens into the cockpit. The flow-through ventilation arrives via three opening ports forward in the saloon and a vent in the hardtop. The cockpit also has seating for eight. The helm station is raised on the starboard side and has sail controls at hand and good visibility, although there’s a blind spot behind the jib when on starboard tack.
The generator and other mechanical equipment are located forward of the house in a large locker located in the bridgedeck. The engines are located all the way aft in each hull and are connected to saildrives; steering access is in the same lockers.
The Moorings 4600 scoots -you’ll rarely have to motor between anchorages. But you’d expect that from the designers of the 125-foot PlayStation, the peripatetic record-breaking offshore catamaran.
