Bill Dixon uses high freeboard to disguise the height of the Tayana 54’s raised saloon, and with the same deft line lowers the profile of the center cockpit. Broad beam drawn well aft adds further to the volume inside, which he has carved up into spaces with palatial proportions. The saloon takes full advantage of the light from the wraparound windows while the galley and nav area, tucked either side of the cockpit, benefit from being close to the center of motion.
On deck, the wide cockpit provides generous elbowroom for sailing maneuvers, and for fine dining around the table when they’re done. A high-aspect-ratio cutter rig with self-tacking staysail offers sail-plan choices to suit a variety of moods and weather conditions.
