There is nothing quite like the massive annual Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS) in Amsterdam. Gear and equipment manufacturers from all over the world gather for three days every November to showcase their latest and greatest and network with the rest of the marine industry.The DAME awards announcement is a highlight of the show. The prestigious award focuses on “the art and science of design in all aspects, from styling, functionality and innovation, through to ease of implementation, practicality of use – and even packaging. It is judged by a panel of top naval architects, boat, interior and industrial designers, plus user experts.”
This year the product that took the top prize is the U SAFE—a rescue buoy that’s not like any we’ve seen before. It’s described as “an auto propelled, remote-controlled watercraft designed to be a fast and precise ‘aquatic robot’ that can reach a person in need quickly and precisely.”
