Electric motor manufacturer Torqeedo has a new outboard in its lineup, the Travel 603. The 2 hp-equivalent, short-shaft motor weighs 34 pounds, including its battery, and is intended for small sailboats and tenders.
The motor’s 500 watt-hour lithium-ion battery provides power enough for 5-1/2 hours of cruising at slow speeds, and floats. An onboard computer with GPS reports operating range, charge status and other safety information, which can also be viewed on an Apple or Android smart device. The 603 is priced at $2,000.
