2013 new boat showcase

Sanya 57

The cockpit “terrace,” the topside “lounge deck,” the interior “living and dining rooms,” the solar panels integrated into the coachroof for aesthetics and practicality: All are standout features of this new cat from accomplished French builder Fountaine Pajot. Choose the six-cabin version or the sweet owners suite. The Sanya 57 is part of Cruising World‘s 2013 New Boat Showcase.

Seaward 46RK

“RK” stands for “retractable keel,” the signature feature in the Nick Hake-designed series of Seaward Yachts. With the verticallly retracting keel in full upright mode, the shallowest bays and coves will be yours to explore. When you’re under way, adjust the lifting keel to maximize performance on any point of sail. The Seaward 46 is part of Cruising World‘s 2013 New Boat Showcase.

Seawind 950

For those seeking a cruising catamaran who don’t want the expense or complexity of a larger boat, the 30-foot Seawind 950, built in Australia, may be just the answer. Thanks to modular construction, the boat can be transported in a couple of 40-foot shipping containers, then reassembled in just two days by a pair of sailors. The Seawind 950 is part of Cruising World‘s 2013 New Boat Showcase.

Shannon 38 HPS

“High Power Sailer” is what the “HPS” stands for in this latest design from Shannon founder Walter Schulz. With a generous sail plan, the boat isn’t a true motorsailer, but with either twin 75-horsepower engines or a single 165-horsepower diesel, the boat cruises at 12 knots with a powering range beyond 500 miles. The Shannon 38 HPS is part of Cruising World‘s 2013 New Boat Showcase.

Southerly 47

Twin rudders, as well as the trademark swing keel, are the defining characteristics of the Southerly line, and with the new 47, one could add sparkling sailing performance to the mix. The standard fractional rig includes a big mainsail and self-tacking jib; dual headsails are an option. In light air, fly the big asymmetric kite. The Southerly 47 is part of Cruising World‘s 2013 New Boat Showcase.

Southerly 420

Shallow bays and estuaries are no impediment to exploration for cruisers under way on this British-built 42-footer. With its highly developed swing keel lowered, the deep draft of 8 feet 9 inches guarantees weatherly bluewater performance. Then touch a button, and the boat draws a mere 2 feet 7 inches for thin-water forays. The Southerly 420 is part of Cruising World‘s 2013 New Boat Showcase.

Sparkman & Stephens 30

Inspired by a 30-foot wooden ocean racer built in 1935 called Babe, the redesigned S&S 30 boasts classic, traditional lines and was conceived for weekend cruising, club racing, and pleasant daysails. The late Olin J. Stephens II claimed that Babe was one of his favorite all-time projects, and we can certainly see why. Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 469

Three cabins or four? With Jeanneau‘s new 46-footer, a hard-chine Briand design, the answers to these many questions are yours to ponder.
