Sunsail announces, for the 16th annual, worldwide Summer Sailstice celebration of sailing, an invitation for everyone to sign up and sail on the solstice weekend of June 18/19, 2016 with a chance to win a free, monohull or multihull charter at any one of its 25 bases around the world. Sunsail will be encouraging current boat owners, new sailors, sailing schools, clubs and organizations to invite crew and hoist their sails to join the whole world sailing for the first weekend of summer. Sunsail and Summer Sailstice are dedicated to celebrating the passion, history and joy of the sailing culture.
All sailors like to share their favourite pastime with friends, family and the world. Sunsail sailors are no exception. From beach cat to tall ship, kiteboard to family cruiser the sailing world’s eclectic personality can be difficult to convey. Summer Sailstice gives sailors this once-a-year opportunity, ahead of the peak sailing season to put all of sailing on display, sail ‘together’ and invite everyone on the water to celebrate the best of sailing. The event is not geographically or sailing discipline limited. It connects cruisers, daysailors, racers, offshore voyagers, inland lake sailors and invites non-sailors to step aboard and join the festivities.
“The event is timed for the Northern Hemisphere solstice aligning with 80-90% of the world’s sailors peak sailing season. The Southern Hemisphere always joins in as we have sailors register from places like Tahiti, South Africa, Australia and Chile. We want all sailors to use this first summer weekend to post their sailing plans, host open houses, invite friends and hoist sails for this worldwide celebration of sailing.” says event founder John Arndt. “Plus use the special discount code ‘stice’ for an extra 5% Summer Sailstice discount any time in the next year including in combination with any other Sunsail promotion!”
‘Sunsail will be working with its 25 charter bases worldwide to publicize and offer as many sailing opportunities on this one weekend as possible,’ says Sunsail’s general manager, Scott Farquharson. ‘We will join all sailing organizations for this one-weekend, all-hands-on-deck sailing festival to maximize the numbers of sails hoisted and sailors sailing while, all combined, we collectively tell the global story of sailing. And, of course, we are offering one lucky Summer Sailstice participant a chance to win a free, one-week charter with Sunsail at any one of our bases worldwide!’
The Summer Sailstice website provides a place for everyone to post and host events while providing event publicity tools for all participants. By registering sailors are able to let the world see how, what and where they sail all contributing to a colorful, high-impact display of sailing to the public.
All sailors are encouraged to sail ‘together’ wherever they are on the planet. And by registering to participate each year, Summer Sailstice celebrants become eligible to win from over 400 prizes supplied by supporting marine businesses including Sunsail, Hobie, Jeanneau, Harken, Beneteau, Schaefer, Team McLube and more.
Sunsail invites the whole world to start their summer sailing together on the first weekend of summer 2016.
